We are making history. While other states scapegoat and criminalize immigrants, Vermont farm worker are building power and voice and moving to recognize immigrant rights as human rights!

S-238 was introduced in the Vermont Senate to provide VT farm workers with a state issued ID. We have organized tirelessly to change the bill into something more CONCRETE by making S-238 provide access to drivers' licenses to VT residents who dont have a SSN.

Farm workers set the goal of access to drivers' licenses after 1 year of Migrant Justice community meetings and surveys. Then, thanks to your help, the Senate Agriculture committee passed this bill unanimously on Friday.

But we are not done. The bill has a long way before becoming law, and we need you to make it happen!

FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT IS A HUMAN RIGHT!

Passing S-238 is an urgent human rights issue for both migrant farmworkers, who currently can’t move freely and can't meet their basic needs to get food or access health care on their own; and to farmers, who currently feel responsible for running errands and, at times, being a taxi service for farm workers.

Partner with farmworkers and farmers from your community to let your representatives know why you support S-238!

This TUESDAY: CALL THE SERGEANT OF ARMS (802-828-2228) AND LEAVE A NOTE FOR YOUR SENATORS:

2. Help us Win the BATTLE OF THE STORY in the media on S-238! WRITE Letters to the Editor! Educate the Press!

The time is NOW! We need to show a groundswell of support for S-238 this week. There have already been some very biased and incomplete reports and some very negative opinion pieces on this issue.

We've done a great job over the past years creating a more humane and thoughtful dialogue about immigration in Vermont; lets keep shaping public debate in a positive light.
