As Senate Debates Reform, Immigrant Rights Groups Across New England Descend on ICE Regional Head Quarters in Mass for "Not One More Deportation" Action
VT Farmworkers, Cows and Friends Take "Not One More Danilo" Action to Mass
Burlington, VT--6/27/13--Immigrant and workers’ rights organizations across New England unite to take their “Not One More Deportation” message to ICE Headquarters in Burlington, Mass. They will call upon the Obama Administration and ICE Directors to halt the detention and deportation of undocumented friends, family members and neighbors who would be eligible for the path to citizenship through passage of the proposed immigration reform legislation being debated right now.
For the first time in history community organizations from Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts are uniting to demand Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) drop deportation cases and provide relief for undocumented family and friends. Supporters will deliver petitions to ICE to drop deportation cases such as that of farmworker leader Danilo Lopez from Vermont , whose case has recently drawn letters of support from Leahy, Sanders, and Welch and Governor Shumlin of Vermont. The action will also highlight a campaign for relief for victims of the New Bedford Bianco raid of 2006 who have been in legal limbo for 7 years.
Lopez explains the motivation for the day, "I’m motivated to fight against this deportation by all the support from my farmworker community, my friends and our allies. By working to stop one deportation, we are demonstrating that we can stop more while we fight to win immigration reform.” For background on Lopez's case go here.
